28 Days Later

28 Days Later is a horror, sci-fi film directed by Danny Boyle and written by Alex Garland. Though, it’s commonly misinterpreted as a zombie movie, the film is all about the “rage virus” that makes the infected person mad and hungry for human flesh. In a span of 28 days, the outbreak caused the entire Britain to become lifeless, leaving infested human beings and a few survivors in the scene. Unlike other post apocalyptic films that focus on special effects and gory action scenes, the movie features a unique development of the story where the situation is somehow hopeless. 28 Days Later is definitely one of the most disturbing, but great horror movies to watch.

30 Days of Night

30 Days of Night is a film adaptation from the comic book of the same title written by Steve Niles. Some critics consider it as one of the best horror movies. It also succeeded in giving a unique, creepy atmosphere that makes viewers shudder in terror. The movie is set in the small town of Burrow in Alaska, which is known to experience 30 days without exposure to sunlight. This in turn, attracts a group of vampires, who attack the town to spend a month feeding on its citizens. Overall, the film was brutal and unrelentingly violent.

The film remained faithful to the plot but you’ll notice that the film makers have decided to revamp the whole setting. The film was directed by Craig Gillespie and stars Colin Farrell, Anton Yelchin and Toni Collete.

Final Destination 5

This horror franchise has a predetermined plot and while it doesn’t meet the level of other new horror movies, it’s still a pretty interesting movie to watch. Though the fourth installment was such a disappointment for some, this new film will leave you awestruck at how the characters ended up being killed throughout the movie. The film also features a darker plot and comes with some elements from the very first movie. The entire film was well planned, making it a must-watch particularly to the fans of the Final Destination series. The film was directed by Steven Quale and written by Eric Heisserer and Jeffrey Reddick.

Insidious

Insidious may just be one of the greatest horror movies because it will make you jump in your seats and scream in terror. Insidious was written by the same people who made the Saw series, so it wouldn’t be surprising if it has promising scary scenes. If you’re expecting new horror movies to be bloody and gory, then you’re watching the wrong film. The story centers around the Lambert couple whose son is suffering from a comatose. Months later, Mrs. Lambert experiences weird things in the house and sees an apparition of a little boy. Believing that their house is haunted, she convinces her husband to leave the house. When they invited a team of ghost hunters to investigate the house, they had revelations about their son’s true condition. The film stars Patrick Wilson and Rose Byrne and was directed by James Wan.

Vampire Movie Pick no. 5: Let the Right One In (2008)

If you’re looking for one of the best vampire movies that deal with teen angst and awkward clothing, sprinkled with a twist of love story and fairy tale, then “Let the Right One In” is the film you should see. The film is based on the novel by John Ajvide Lindqvist and directed by Tomas Alfredson. The story centers around Oskar, a pubescent outcast, who is bullied by his classmates in school, and Eli, a vampire kept in solitary care by her guardian.

While the story focuses on the relationship between a human and a vampire, the element of vampirism is shown in such a way that is very unpleasant. The guy with Eli, who is presumably her ex-boyfriend when he was younger, has become a serial killer because he is the one who gets the work done just to feed Eli with blood. Though the film doesn’t emphasize the dilemma of killing people, the film remains one of the most original vampire movies ever created.

Vampire Movie Pick no. 4 : Shadow of a Vampire (2000)

If you’re a true blue Horror Fan and a vampire buff, Shadow of a Vampire is one of the most enjoyable vampire movies. The plot is about the making of the classic, silent film the Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror. In this movie, Max Schreck is praised for his exceptional performance as the vampire Count Orlok. Director Murnau was so obsessed in creating the perfect vampire film that he hired a real undead (Schreck) on the set for the title role. The film was directed by E. Elias Merhige and stars Willem Dafoe and John Malkovich.

Vampire Movie Pick no. 3: From Dusk Till Dawn (1996)

Many of the fans hate and love this film and a list of horror movies will be a waste without this one. If you’re into action, unrelenting violence and gangs, From Dusk Till Dawn will be a good pick. The films revolves around the two criminals, the Gecko Boys, and their hostages searching for a temporary shelter in Mexico. The place that they are staying in turns out to be a strip joint populated by vampires and this starts the chaotic battle between the humans and the forces of the undead. The film was directed by Robert Rodriguez and written by Robert Kurtzman and Quentin Tarantino.

Vampire Movie Pick no. 2: Bram Stoker’s Dracula (1992)

A list of horror movies will not be complete without the film adaptation of Bram Stoker’s Dracula. The story in the movie is based on Stoker’s Novel, where the young lawyer Jonathan Harker, is assigned to a murky village in Eastern Europe. While traveling to London, Harker was captured and imprisoned by the vampire Dracula, who was captivated by the photo of his fiancée, Mina Murray. Blade

Blade has already been adapted to a movie three times. Though it seems as if there is more action compared to being one of the usual horror stories with blood sucking vampires, the comic was a real gem for avid comic readers. The story centers on Blade, a half blood vampire and a vampire hunter that kills bloodsucking vampires with style and finesse. His mother, a prostitute, was bitten by a vampire when Blade was being born, thus giving him vampiric powers of super strength and agility.

American Vampire

American Vampire is a comic series written by Scott Snyder and Rafael Albuquerque. Unlike other horror stories, the entire series explores the new American bloodline of vampires from the year 1800s. This new kind of vampire is stronger and faster compared to common attributes of a normal vampire. These vampires are also impervious to sunlight, but developed with some new kind of weakness. The series follows the character Skinner Sweet, an outlaw and a vampire, who lives through decades, until he met his descendant, Pearl Jones. He saves her life from European vampire attackers by giving her blood and eventually making her part of the American bloodline of vampires.

Vampire Hunter D

Vampire Hunter D is a Japanese manga written by Hideyuki Kikuchi and illustrated by Yoshitaka Amano. One thing that makes it unique from other vampire stories is the combination of steam punk genre and vampire oriented plot. The story centers on D, a hybrid human and vampire bounty hunter, with a quest of finding a young girl kidnapped by a powerful vampire. As the story progress, D learns that he’s not the only hired vampire hunter to find the girl. There is also another group of vampire hunters known as the Mark Brothers. Now, D must compete with the other group in order to retrieve the girl before the group finds the missing girl.

30 Days of Night

30 Days of Night is a comic series, written by Steve Niles and illustrated by Ben Temple Smith. The comic book was considered as one of the most compelling horror stories in the myriad of comic books. The vampires portrayed here are intelligent and vicious individuals that don’t feast or suck the blood of the people that they kill. Instead, they only do the killing for the pointless reason of fun and violence. They terrorize the small town of Burrow in Alaska for the reason that the sun never shines in the town. It’s always winter night, so they can slaughter anytime they want.

Vampirella

The story of Vampirella is one of the unique vampire stories because of her charming character, different from the usual terrifying vampire characteristics. She embodies a sensual demeanor that will captivate both vampires and humans with her succulent curves and red suit. Vampirella is a heroine and a vampire that feeds on blood to survive and perform her super powers. Unlike other vampires, she’s impervious to sunlight, water and crosses and doesn’t have the ability to turn humans into vampires. Though she feeds on human blood, she only does it with her attackers.
